The Parents Guide: Listen to and learn about all types of music together.

Updated: Sep 23, 2018

For me, this is one of the best ideas. There is nothing like showing your children different styles of music.

Just think, as adults we have heard so many genres of music, but for your children its quite likely they haven’t heard many. So the moment you play your child some jazz, dubstep or a classical symphony, watch their face and see them take it all in. Its so exciting to share music together. Its not necessary to limit it to just classical music.

Nowadays, there are so many styles of music your child can play their instrument along to that you may not have thought of before. I will write a list here of some ideas to get you started. Picking out the instruments in a piece of music or a song will also get them inspired and amazed! Listen to Ellie Goulding’s version of Your Song and listen to the lovely Cello playing for example. This opened my eyes up to the use of instruments in music, and certainly inspired me when i was young.

Here’s the list:

  • Baroque

  • Medieval

  • Classical

  • Contemporary

  • Romantic

  • Orchestral

  • Ensemble

  • Solo

  • Duets

  • Pop

  • Hip hop

  • Drum and bass

  • Jazz

  • Dance

  • Ballet music

  • Soul

  • Big band
